Insulated Dog Jackets –Try this Simple Equation
All dog breeds are different. Within each dog breed each individual dog has a
unique set of DNA. As a result, each dog may require a different type of
dog coat to protect them from getting chilly. Some
dogs may require insulated dog jackets whereas others may only need a shell to
protect them from rain or snow. Depending on where you live and what kind of dog
you have, an dog coat with insulation may be required to supplement the natural
‘padding.’
It’s no surprise that some dogs have more insulation than others. Natural dog
insulation can come in two forms: insulation below the skin in the form of fat,
and insulation above the skin in the form of fur. Some dogs have a little of
both types of padding, whereas others don’t have much at all. Take the whippet
or chihuahua for example –neither of these dogs have many natural defenses from
the cold.
When finding active dog insulated jackets
it’s important to focus first on your dog, then your environment and then the
coat. For example, if you have a lean dog with a small amount of fur and it’s
cold 9 months of the year –you’ll need to look for a
dog jacket with a good amount of insulation. In the winter a
puffy dog coat provides a lot of warmth
and for spring or fall, a lightweight fleece-lined rain coat would be a good
bet.
Alternatively, if you own a dog with lots of under-skin padding, a healthy
amount of fur and live in a warm climate, you won’t need much insulation for
your pup unless you plan on taking a trip up north.
Therefore, finding a doggie jacket with varying levels of padding is a matter of
your dog and your climate. Once you’ve ‘added’ these two pieces together, you
should come up with pretty good idea of what dog coat you’ll need.
Dog Breed + Climate = A coat with the right thickness of padding for your pup
