Dog Jackets for the Adventure-Seeking K-9
Dog
jackets: any shield or insulator guarding your dog from the elements. Where
dog coats tend to conjure thoughts of more stylish
canine apparel, dog jackets outfit your dog for outdoor adventure.
Because ‘man’s best friend’ tends to accompany their owner
everywhere, it’s
not enough for the owner to be the only one taking precautions before venturing
out on a walk, run, hike or swim. Dog owners also need to consider their furry companions when planning an outdoor trek of any
kind.
Here are some common circumstances when a dog vest or jacket is advisable:
1) Walking at night. Whether you walk your pooch in the city or country,
when the sun goes down, your dog blends into the night. To make your dog visible
at night, consider
getting a lightweight dog safety vest. A brightly colored vest with reflective
stripes will bring more prominence to your dog and reflect light when bikers,
walkers and cars pass.
2) Walking or running in the cold or rain. Although dogs have a natural
fur coat to
keep them toasty, some require a little more padding to stay warm in cold climates
–-especially when outside for longer than a few minutes. To provide
extra insulation, a warm
fleece or blanket coat (covering the tummy) will help keep your dog clean and
warm.
If you live in a rainy location, the wetness shouldn’t keep you and your pooch
from enjoying the great outdoors --your dog needs the exercise! To effectively protect your dog from the rain, there are
many dog rain jackets (with reflective
stripes) which will keep your dog fairly dry.
3) Going on a hike. Just like a hiker would pack food, safety essentials
and extra clothes for a trek, the same considerations should be thought-through
for a pooch. Adventure-seeking dogs need to be ready for whatever circumstances
arise while hiking, which is why there are a number of dog vests, backpacks and
booties designated to outfit and protect pooches with the right gear.
4) Going to the cabin. If you have a cabin near the water, it would be wise
to consider a dog life jacket. Although
most dogs can swim, they do get tired. As a precaution, it is always wise
to place your dog in a life vest when boating. Life vests
for all members on board provide insurance that you and your dog will be protected
while navigating calm or rough waters.
